Too much change, too quickly
The amount of players who have been in and out of the revolving door at stsdium:mk is staggering. Since 1st July last year thirty eight players have come into the club including those returning from loan spells. And thirty four have left the club, including players returning to parent clubs.
Only five first team players (not including academy graduates) were part of the squad last season. Since the end of the 21/22 campaign heavy squad turnover and several managerial changes have certainly had a part to play in the Dons recent downfall.
To create a successful team you need a core group of players to build around that know the expectations of the club and represent its identity. Time is key. Right now we seem to have a bunch of individuals and a negative culture at the club. We see it week in week out with the way the team play. You cannot expect to win football matches playing side ways and back with a lack of intensity in the press.
It is important that the next manager is one who cares and advocates for the players. I still remember the interview with Russell Martin when he told the media he loves Jordan Houghton.
The next head coach appointment is vital. Many fans, including myself are unsure whether this current board can get it right. Lets face it since Liam Sweeting arrived he has only got it right once, with the hiring of Liam Manning.
For a club to be successful you need succession planning, clear identity and consistency in your recruitment strategy. Panic appointments are a big no, no.
MK Dons board also need to be realistic. This is not a quick fix and even a very talented coach at this level will not be able to transform the clubs fortunes over night
