Last minute woes at Priestfield
No shots on target, six failed attempts to put a cross in. How easy do they want to make it. Clean sheet for Gillingham but hardly a defensive master class. A lot of our football was played in front of them. Very rarely did we try to get in behind their back line.
Evenly matched in the first half but certainly shaded by the home side in the second. Hutton delivered two or three dangerous for the Gills and substitute striker Joseph Gbode gave them more of a presence at the top end of the pitch up against Jack Sanders. Although the MK centre back stood up to the test, their battle did lead to a yellow card for the MK Dons defender. Followed by an 83rd minute exit for Gbode who was replaced by Oliver Hawkins.
Ultimately the men from MK1 really should have held on for a point here. Despite applying more pressure than the Dons, most of Gillingham’s attacks only turned into half chances. As often is the way with MK this season they fail to deal with a set piece, conceding in the 95th minute courtesy of Gillingham’s elder statesman, Bradley Dack.
Where do we go from here?
Ben Gladwin was unsurprisingly downbeat in his post match press conference. I think it’s fair to say his race is very much over run. Not that it ever started. Despite clearly putting his all into coaching the players the ex-Dons midfielder has hardly displayed the leadership qualities to take them into battle. Our performances at times have looked like a training exercise.
Gladwin mentioned in his interview that the appointment of a new manager is expected this week. A similar announcement was made last week.
A new manager bounce could bring a few results to sign off the season with and give the new boss much needed food for thought going into the summer
