Paul Warne: The verdict
The new manager saga has finally come to an end with Paul Warne stepping through the doors at stadium:mk on Tuesday evening. Warne has penned a four year deal, which is a real statement of intent from himself and the board.
MK Dons have been crying out for a head coach who’s in it for the long haul with heavy backing by the board to build a long term culture and identity that can drive the club forward.
This will be seen by many as a real coup for MK Dons and shock to fans of other EFL clubs. I think a lot of fans should be thankful to former assistant coach Richie Barker for speaking so highly of his previous stint at the club. Barker knows where this club can go; the cup tie against Manchester United and promotion to the Championship. Look at it this way, Milton Keynes’ current population is 288,200. A second tier football club winning games and playing an attacking brand of football in the proccess should be able to fill a decent amount of seats in a ground that has been associated with low attendances and poor atmosphere.
Four league one promotions to the Championship speak for themselves, easily making the new boss the most decorated appointment in the clubs history.
When asked about playing style the new head coach spoke about everything the fans have been calling for. He likes to simplify the way his sides play football, urging them to pass forward at every opportunity playing with no fear and high intensity. A big believer in utilising wide areas and getting crosses in. Adaptable when it comes to formation, depending on what’s needed to win the game. Set pieces are a passion of his and i’m sure we’ll see how effective they are in the coming weeks and months.
Personality wise he seems like a positive guy, a real people person who wants himself and his players to embed themselves into the community, creating a strong bond with the fans.
A lot of criticism has been fired at both CEO Neil Hart and Sporting director Liam Sweeting. I think many will feel listened to off the back of this appointment.
